Washington DC Summer Trip
Students fly, some for the very first time, for a week of soaking up history and culture in the Nation's Capital while also putting their school and STEM learning into action at the FBI museum, the Air and Space Museum, and the Natural History Museum. Students meet and talk with congressmen and senators representing the state of Arkansas, visit the White House, explore museums, and learn the ins and outs of riding the metro, among many other adventures throughout the week's travel.
Student Experience & Growth
SOAR supports over 500 students across five sites, and strives to bring more students to DC each year! In 2024 there were twenty bright students selected to attend. If a student would like the opportunity to attend, they must complete an application, leadership essay, and interview with the SOAR Leadership Team. The top students are then selected to join SOAR program leaders on the summer trip of a lifetime!
Student Selection Process
Past years trips have been filled with adventure and fun! SOAR Students have had the opportunity to practice their communication and leadership skills by:
Meeting with Senators at the Capital Building- time to show off that handshake!
Touring the White House and Ford’s Theatre
Exploring the National Museum of African American History and Culture
Visiting the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial
Eating and playing at the Wharf
